Led by Sky O’Brien, this workshop focuses on writing compelling characters. We will read and discuss memorable character portraits, exploring how writers use detail, figurative language, and exaggeration to create comic and serious effects. Through guided exercises, you will develop your own characters, drawing on observation and invention.

Sky O’Brien is Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, United States. He is also Managing Editor of Dispatches Magazine, an arts and culture magazine based in Berkeley, California, where he writes about art, literature and politics
